Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Why choose this over a simpler Toshiba?
Its combination of inverter power delivery and sensor programs is relevant when you often defrost or reheat at reduced power. For full-power mug heating, fit and simpler controls may matter more.
Explore this need in the finder →How much counter depth should I allow?
The reviewed BS body is 19.2 inches deep and the manual requires one inch behind, in addition to safe door access and cord positioning. Allow three inches at each side and above; this does not establish a built-in installation.

That is not established. The earlier BS manual and current SS product page describe different door arrangements. Match the actual offered unit and its manual when door operation is essential.
Explore this need in the finder →The Toshiba ML-EM45PIT(BS) is worth considering for a household that wants a roomy microwave with sensor programs, inverter power delivery and a way to mute alerts. Its main compromise is counter depth. It also needs careful model checking: the similarly named ML-EM45P(BS) has different ratings and should not be treated as the same oven.
What the PIT version adds to the shortlist
The exact Toshiba-authored manual identifies ML-EM45PIT(BS), a 1.6-cu.-ft. cavity, 1,250-watt cooking output and a 13.6-inch tray. Toshiba's US PIT family page describes Origin Inverter technology and sensor menus, while listing the stainless SS finish separately. The exact BS manual also discusses the frequency-converter system in its fault guidance; we do not infer inverter technology merely from the Toshiba brand. Exact BS manual; Toshiba PIT family page, SS variant.
The reason to care about inverter operation is control during lower-power tasks, not a badge promising perfect food. If you regularly soften, defrost or gently reheat, it is a relevant design preference. If you only run full-power thirty-second bursts, tray fit and convenient controls may matter more to you. No independent heating or noise measurement is implied by that design assessment.
Check the deeper body before the larger cavity
The BS manual lists 21.77 inches wide, 19.20 deep and 12.99 high. Its installation section requires three inches on each side, three above and one behind. These clearances belong to this particular manual; do not borrow the much larger overhead instruction from a different Toshiba simply because the fascia looks familiar. Countertop installation, printed EN-16.
A deep appliance can make a shallow counter awkward even when its feet are supported. Consider the door swing, the cord and plug, and where you will set food down. The listed body plus rear clearance is a planning aid, not a complete engineered cabinet-opening measurement. This review does not establish a trim-kit installation for the BS model.
Sensor convenience still depends on your meal
Toshiba supplies sensor functions, manual power selection, defrost and saved cooking procedures. Sensor reheating is useful for someone who frequently changes portion size and would like help estimating time. Its initial sensing stage works with steam, so covering instructions and the order of operations matter. The manual specifically warns against interrupting sensing by opening the door before the countdown appears.
For a plate containing rice, meat and vegetables, consider whether the ingredients should be redistributed or heated in stages. An automatic function does not make a very thick pile heat like a shallow one. When your meal does not fit the menu instructions, manual timing gives you a better way to check progress and avoid repeatedly overheating the edges.
Does a 13.6-inch tray solve your dish problem?
It provides a larger circular support than many compact ovens, but the useful question is the complete shape of your cookware. Include handles and any microwave-safe cover. A rectangular box may catch a corner even when its shorter side looks modest. You also need room to lift it out while wearing oven gloves.
For a family warming separate plates, there can still be a queue. A larger cavity is not permission to stack meals in an arrangement the manual does not support. If speed matters more than handling a single large dish, think through the real dinner routine before paying for size alone.
Sounds, door controls and edition differences
The exact BS manual documents turning keypad and cooking-end sounds off. That directly answers a preference for fewer beeps, while leaving the motor, fan and physical door sounds outside any silence claim. Someone sharing a room with a sleeping child should distinguish alert volume from all operating noise.
Door operation needs an edition check. The earlier BS manual describes a control lock. Toshiba's current SS product page shows a two-step physical release. That SS illustration cannot prove that every BS unit has the same trigger. For a buyer who needs easy one-handed access, the actual panel and supplied manual should decide the question. The questionnaire should treat an unconfirmed door mechanism as unconfirmed, rather than award a convenient-opening match.
Power does not supply a cooking-time guarantee
The manual separately states 1,350-watt electrical input and 1,250-watt microwave output. Keep those two values attached to their labels, and check the rating plate on the unit for installation. A food package based on another output rating may need different timing; take care with small portions that can overheat before a large meal would be ready.
There is little reason to select this model solely because its output number is higher than a nearby alternative. For a household reheating delicate foods at reduced power, the control approach is more relevant. For someone mostly using one preset, a simpler oven that fits better can be the more comfortable purchase.
Where it belongs in the finder
The PIT should move forward for answers emphasizing inverter control, sensor assistance and larger dinnerware, provided the available counter space passes the exact installation check. It should fall back for a shallow counter, an essential confirmed single-step door, a built-in installation or hot-air baking.
Compare offers using the entire ML-EM45PIT(BS) code and the actual edition. Keep the SS variant separate when finish or door hardware matters. That is how the feature combination becomes a useful recommendation rather than a list of attractive words borrowed from neighboring models.
